Penderecki String Quartet

In honour of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, our distinguished guest ensemble presents quartets from the celebrated composer’s early, middle and late periods. Purcell and Lully: Theatre Music
of England and France

We bring you music from the Age of Louis XIV up to late 17th-cemtury England. Consortium’s fine string ensemble, expanded for the occasion, performs dances and overtures drawn from theatrical productions, including ballets, operas and plays. Charismatic violinist Julia Wedman of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra is guest leader.

Count, Duke, Prince and King

Courtly chamber music from 18th-century Germany, written for aristocrats and royalty by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Quantz, Telemann, and King Frederick the Great of Prussia, will be performed by Consortium regulars Doris Dungan, flute; Colleen Kennedy, oboe; Katie Stevens, violin; Peter Cosbey, cello, and Elizabeth Ganiatsos, harpsichord.

We join the world in celebrating Ludwig van Beethoven 250th anniversary, auspiciously eight days before his actual birthday. We welcome the Thunder Bay Symphony for a seventh time, its appearance always a treat for our audience! Birthday cake follows!

Guest violinist Jeremy Bell is joined by pianist Evgeny Chugunov and cellist Marc Palmquist to perform passionate piano trios: Schumann Piano Trio No. 3 in G minor, Op. 110 and Arensky Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 32, preceded by Schubert’s serene, single-movement Notturno in E flat.

Sound the Trumpets!
Italian Baroque

Revel in glorious Baroque music from Italy for two trumpets, soprano and strings, with very virtuosic parts for all. Concerti, sinfonias, sonatas, and arias by Vivaldi, Manfredini, Corelli, Albinoni, Franceschini, Jacchini, Galuppi, and Alessandro Scarlatti are performed by trumpeters Sam Hughes and Paul Sanvidotti, soprano Irina Medvedeva, string ensemble and harpsichord.
